Prior to the early 2000 medical school curriculums did not include in-depth information of opioid prescribing and opioid addiction. Health care provides learned on the job and additionally pharmaceutical companies were providing false information regarding their products. This contributed to the early opioid addiction problems in the US.
Attendees will learn to describe the opioid drugs;To describe the opioid epidemic in the US; To describe the science of addiction and addictive behavior; and To describe the treatment for opioid addiction.
Emphasis will be placed on the impact the opioid epidemic has on the workplace and what employers can do.
